With a surface area of 14.6 km2 and a circumference of over 23 km, Brome Lake is an immense playground offering recreational boating, swimming and lots of other year-round fun. It’s the perfect spot to feel the wind in your hair!
Known for its clear water and natural splendour, Brome Lake is nestled in a valley surrounded by verdant mountains, including those of the Appalachian Range to the south. With the arrival of warmer weather, water sports enthusiasts don their bathing suits and get out their gear to make the most of their spectacular lake. Don’t feel like moving? No worries! You can also spend a lazy afternoon in the sun, digging your toes deep into the warm sand.
Feel like a spin on the lake?
While some people can’t wait to launch their canoes, kayaks or pedal boats, others prefer to explore the shores from a pontoon boat. Don’t have a watercraft of your own? Rentals are available from local businesses. As you skip across the water, keep your eyes peeled for the pros from our local rowing club training hard for an upcoming competition.
Are you a birdwatcher?
If this sounds like you, don’t miss out on a kayak trek through Quilliams-Durrull Nature Reserve. In this vast expanse of meandering marshlands surrounded by tall grass, turtles bask in the sun while great blue herons stretch their wings in flight overhead.
Ladies and gentlemen, to your paddles!
Stand-up paddleboard (SUP) buffs can rent equipment from Aloha Surf at Hotel Suites Lac Brome, located at the entrance to the nature reserve. It’s also the starting point for touring the lake on a pontoon boat.
Tiffany Beach is a favourite with people who enjoy a sunset swim, as well as a great spot to launch canoes, kayaks and sailboards. Want to work on your wakeboard or waterskiing techniques? Waketime Water Sports School offers a variety of courses geared to different skill levels.
Beaches and more
For supervised swimming opportunities, head for the municipal beach. With its large parking lot close to the centre of Knowlton, Douglass Beach is always ready to welcome visitors. Visit the Town’s website for information on parking fees and any pandemic-related measures in effect. Feeling hungry? There’s a restaurant right on-site along with picnic areas for families. Douglass Beach also has launch sites for non-motorized watercraft. However, recreational boaters will want to head to the Domaine des Érables campground or Marina Knowlton to launch motorized watercraft.

Perhaps a tequila sunrise at sunset?
Marina Knowlton on Benoit St. is a true institution. With every passing summer, the spot draws more and more visitors keen on getting a front-row seat for one of best sunset views in town, all set in a hippie-chic ambience. Eagle Island, right across from the marina, is the only place with a lakeside patio. Whether at noon or cocktail hour, a plate of nachos or your favourite barbecue fare pairs nicely with a margarita or cold cerveza.
Owner Jaime Moar also offers a yoga course on the dock two or three times a week to start your day off on the right foot.
Pure bliss!
